The strike occurred shortly after an air raid alert was declared in the Ukrainian capital over the threat of Russian drones. Explosions were reported in Kyiv before officials confirmed the hit on the bridge.
Kyivpastrans said the closure disrupted several public transport routes, including buses No. 21, 73, 101, and 114, as well as trolleybuses No. 29, 30, 31, and 47.
Several bus routes were redirected through the Podilskyi Bridge crossing, Poshtova Ploshcha metro station, and European Square.
The Northern Bridge is one of the main road connections across the Dnipro in Kyiv and links districts in the northern parts of the capital.

The attack follows a series of Russian strikes on Kyiv’s Southern Bridge over the previous two days. Russian forces first struck the Southern Bridge on October 1, targeting part of its support structure before hitting it again later that day and damaging the road surface, bridge infrastructure, and protective structures used by the metro system.
Russian forces struck the Southern Bridge again early on October 2, prompting authorities to introduce restrictions on several crossings between Kyiv’s left and right banks. The bridge was subsequently targeted for a fourth time.
Following the repeated attacks, Kyiv police announced additional traffic restrictions during air raid alerts. The Southern Bridge is to be completely closed in both directions during alerts, while traffic on several other Dnipro crossings may also be limited.
