Russian military personnel losses in October 2026 have reached 49,040 as of October 29, marking the highest monthly figure since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The General Staff reported that the previous monthly record was registered in December 2024, when Russian forces suffered 48,670 personnel losses.

With October still underway, Russia’s average daily personnel losses have reached approximately 1,750, according to Ukrainian military estimates.

The figures also indicate a substantial increase in Russian losses over recent months. In February 2026, Russian forces sustained an estimated 26,090 personnel losses, compared with 46,230 in September and 49,040 as of October 29.

“Why this matters: The rate of Russian personnel losses exceeds the military’s ability to replenish its units. Each month of the war is becoming increasingly costly for Russia’s armed forces,” the General Staff added.

Ukrainian drone strikes have killed or wounded more than 302,000 Russian military personnel since the beginning of 2026, averaging over 1,000 casualties per day in less than ten months, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense reported on October 27.

March recorded the highest number of Russian personnel casualties from Ukrainian drone strikes, with 33,989 soldiers killed or wounded. April followed with 33,961 casualties, while February saw the lowest monthly total at 26,204.

Throughout the year, Ukrainian drone units have consistently inflicted tens of thousands of casualties on Russian forces each month. Monthly totals exceeded 30,000 in January, March, April, May, July, and September.

In September alone, drone strikes killed or wounded 32,739 Russian troops. During the first 25 days of October, Ukrainian forces recorded an additional 27,829 Russian personnel casualties from drone operations.

Overall, as of October 29, 2026, Russia’s estimated personnel losses since the beginning of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine had reached approximately 1,584,910, according to Ukraine’s General Staff.
