UK, France, and Germany Gear Up for Ukraine Deployment With Major Military Drills in Poland

According to The Times on October 17, the exercises will focus on preparing European forces for a possible post-war mission in Ukraine as part of security arrangements intended to deter renewed Russian aggression.
The drills will test the movement of military personnel, coordination between national armed forces, and the delivery of essential supplies, including fuel and food. These logistical preparations are considered necessary for any future deployment of European troops to Ukrainian territory.
British Defense Secretary Wes Streeting confirmed that thousands of military personnel would take part in the exercises next month. Streeting said the training would help participating countries prepare to support Ukraine’s military training requirements and post-war reconstruction.

The planned exercises form part of the Coalition of the Willing initiative, which brings together countries working on potential security guarantees for Ukraine following a cessation of hostilities.
According to The Times, the training will bring multinational units together to practice operating alongside one another, with particular attention to the practical requirements of moving and sustaining troops across borders.
The coalition’s plans have developed through a series of discussions between Ukraine and its European partners over the possible deployment of an international security contingent.
In January 2026, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and France signed a declaration of intent concerning the potential deployment of multinational forces following a peace agreement. The proposed mission would support Ukraine’s defense capabilities, military training, and long-term security.
