On May 18, Ukrainian units targeted the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery in the city of Kstovo in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region. A fire was reported on the territory of the facility following the strike, while the extent of the damage is still being assessed.

The Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery is one of the largest oil processing plants in Russia, with an annual capacity of approximately 17 million tons of crude oil. It produces gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel, which are used, among other purposes, to supply Russia’s military forces.

A second strike was reported on May 19, when Ukrainian forces hit the Yaroslavl-3 oil pumping station located near the settlement of Semibratovo in Russia’s Yaroslavl region.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the full scale of the damage at the facility, and assessments are ongoing.

The latest attacks come amid a broader pattern of strikes targeting Russia’s energy and fuel infrastructure, which plays a key role in sustaining both domestic consumption and military logistics.

Earlier, long-range drones reportedly targeted the Nevinnomyssk Azot chemical plant in Russia’s Stavropol region overnight on May 16, triggering a fire at one of the country’s largest nitrogen fertilizer producers.

According to the Russian Telegram channel Astra, footage and photographs circulated online showed a blaze at the facility in the city of Nevinnomyssk following a series of explosions reported around 2:30 a.m. local time.

Stavropol region governor Vladimir Vladimirov confirmed that drones had targeted the area overnight but claimed Russian air defenses repelled the attack and stated that there was “no destruction on the ground.”

Additionally, on May 13, Ukrainian drones hit infrastructure at Russia’s Tamanneftegaz oil terminal in the Krasnodar region, damaging an overpass connecting berths at the Port of Taman, according to Ukraine’s General Staff and the OSINT group CyberBoroshno.

The terminal is considered one of Russia’s key Black Sea export facilities for crude oil and refined petroleum products.
