Ukraine Knocks Out Russian Coastal Radar and Drone Command Network in Coordinated Strike

Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out a series of precision strikes against Russian military infrastructure on July 20 and overnight into July 21, targeting a coastal surveillance radar, ammunition and logistics depots, and multiple unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) command posts, according to Ukraine’s General Staff on July 21.

The military said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to degrade Russia’s military and economic capacity to sustain its war against Ukraine.

Among the most notable targets was a Bussol-S coastal surveillance radar station near Khorly in the occupied part of Ukraine’s Kherson region.

According to the General Staff, the Bussol-S radar is designed to detect, track, and provide targeting data on surface vessels, allowing Russian naval and coastal defense units to monitor maritime activity and improve surveillance of the Black Sea coastline.

Disabling such a system reduces Russia’s coastal situational awareness and target acquisition capabilities.

Ukraine also struck several Russian logistics facilities, including:

• a military logistics depot in Davydivske, Donetsk region, used to store equipment, spare parts, fuel, and other supplies needed to sustain frontline operations;

• an ammunition depot in Kundriuche, occupied Luhansk region, where artillery shells, rockets, and other munitions were reportedly stored for Russian forces;

• a material and technical support depot near Popovo-Lezhachi in Russia’s Kursk region, supporting Russian units operating near the Ukrainian border.

In addition, Ukrainian forces targeted three Russian UAV command posts near Komar and the village of Zaporizhzhia in Donetsk region, as well as Kamianske in Zaporizhzhia region.

Such command posts are used to coordinate reconnaissance and strike drones, relay intelligence to frontline units, and direct attacks against Ukrainian positions. Destroying them can disrupt Russian drone operations, reduce reconnaissance coverage, and complicate coordination between UAV operators and combat units.

Ukrainian forces have continued targeting Russian artillery across the front. On July 21, the 44th Separate Artillery Brigade reported destroying three Russian 152mm 2A65 Msta-B towed howitzers and striking a troop concentration on the Huliaipole and Orikhiv axes in the Zaporizhzhia region, highlighting Kyiv’s ongoing effort to degrade Russia’s firepower and frontline logistics.
