Ukraine’s defense technology company BlueBird Tech has launched a dedicated design bureau focused on developing and scaling the production of Ukrainian-made guided aerial bombs, known as KABs.

According to BlueBird Tech on June 1, the project is being carried out in cooperation with one of Ukraine’s leading scientific and engineering design bureaus.

The initiative aims to support the development of domestically produced precision-guided air-delivered weapons and expand Ukraine’s long-range strike capabilities.

The company said it has already begun work on initial engineering and technical tasks together with specialists in missile technology and aviation weapons systems.

“We are joining forces with leading Ukrainian engineers and scientists to systematically address missile development challenges and analyze which solutions are currently the most critical for Ukraine. Therefore, our first priority will be the serial production of Ukrainian-made KABs,” BlueBird Tech stated.

According to the company, the new bureau was established in response to battlefield requirements and the need to increase the production of high-precision strike systems developed in Ukraine.

The announcement follows reports in May that a participant in Ukraine’s Brave1 defense innovation platform had developed the country’s first domestically designed guided aerial bomb after 17 months of work. The weapon is intended to strike fortified positions, command centers, and other military targets.

Available details indicate that the bomb carries a 250-kilogram warhead and is capable of engaging targets dozens of kilometers from the launch point. Developers have described it as a completely original Ukrainian design rather than an adaptation of an existing foreign system.
