According to Ukraine’s 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade on October 17, the Russian troops attempted to exploit weather conditions to advance toward Ukrainian positions on motorcycles. The attack was stopped by the brigade in coordination with neighboring Ukrainian units.
The brigade reported that Russian forces suffered 55 casualties during the engagement, including 43 killed and 12 wounded. Ukrainian troops also destroyed nine motorcycles and one civilian-type passenger vehicle used during the assault.
Following the failed attack, surviving Russian soldiers attempted to take cover in nearby shelters and defensive positions. Ukrainian forces subsequently struck 36 locations where Russian troops had reportedly sought refuge.
Russian units also deployed several types of drones to support the ground assault. Ukrainian defenders reported destroying 19 FPV drones, two FPV drones positioned to wait for targets, and five Russian Molniya strike drones.
Footage published by the 155th Brigade shows Ukrainian drones targeting Russian personnel and motorcycles during the engagement. The video documents several strikes against Russian assault units, although the full casualty figures could not be independently verified.

The brigade described the engagement as the largest motorcycle assault it had encountered since the beginning of 2026 within its assigned sector of the front.
Motorcycles have become one of the vehicles used by Russian assault units attempting to cross exposed terrain and approach Ukrainian defensive positions. Their mobility allows troops to move quickly across certain sections of the battlefield, although riders remain vulnerable to drone surveillance and precision strikes.
Earlier, Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps reported killing more than 250 Russian troops at a single location during Operation Vivaldi. Ukrainian commanders said they exploited a narrow, 100-meter-wide area to repeatedly target Russian infantry reinforcements, disrupting troop movements and preventing Russian forces from establishing defensive positions.
