Ukraine’s Flamingo Cruise Missile Costs Just $600K—Six Times Cheaper Than a Tomahawk

Ukraine’s domestically developed Flamingo long-range cruise missile costs just under $600,000 per unit, making it roughly six times cheaper than the US-made Tomahawk, while already being used in long-range strikes against military targets inside Russia.

According to The Guardian on July 27, citing Fire Point CEO Iryna Terekh, the company currently manufactures around 100 Flamingo cruise missiles per month, alongside hundreds of FP-1 and FP-2 long-range attack drones, as Ukraine continues expanding its domestic missile and drone production.

Each Flamingo missile can carry a 1,150-kilogram warhead, designed to penetrate reinforced concrete structures. Terekh said the missile was used in June during a strike on a Russian military component factory in Cheboksary, located more than 950 kilometers from Kharkiv.

She added that one mission involved a flight of approximately 1,800 kilometers due to a complex route, describing it as one of the “longest recorded cruise missile missions”.

Fire Point estimates the cost of each Flamingo missile at slightly under $600,000, compared with roughly $3.5 million for a US Tomahawk cruise missile.

Beyond cruise missiles, The Guardian reported that Fire Point also produces FP-1 long-range strike drones with a range exceeding 1,600 kilometers. According to Terekh, the drones have been used against Russian oil infrastructure, with individual units costing between $55,000 and $75,000.

The company has expanded rapidly since Russia’s full-scale invasion. Terekh said Fire Point now operates across 83 production sites in Ukraine and one facility in Denmark, employing approximately 6,000 people, compared with 3,500 employees at the end of last year.

According to The Guardian, Fire Point is also developing Ukraine’s first domestically produced ballistic missiles, which Terekh said the company hopes to introduce before the end of 2026.

In parallel, the company is participating in the multinational Freyja air defense initiative involving Ukraine and nine other European countries. Under the project, Fire Point is expected to manufacture launchers and interceptor missiles, with a target cost of approximately $1 million per interceptor, positioning the system as a lower-cost alternative to the US Patriot air defense system.

Speaking about the role of the company’s products in Ukraine’s long-range campaign, Terekh told The Guardian: “I am not aware of any long-range attack over the past few months that has not involved our products.”

Earlier, Fire Point said it aims to deploy its domestically developed FP-9 ballistic missile by mid-2026. The company has claimed the missile will have a range of up to 850 kilometers and has suggested that multiple missiles could be launched simultaneously in future operational scenarios.
