Ukrainian commando units and underground resistance fighters have destroyed a strategic railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal in temporarily occupied Crimea, severing a critical military supply line utilized by Russian forces, according to Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SSO) on June 23.

The operation, executed near the village of Rozdolne, was carried out by the “Middle Strike” units of the SSO in tight coordination with the local SSO Resistance Movement. Initial precise strikes on the night of June 22 heavily damaged the railway tracks and triggered the complete collapse of one of the structural spans.

The military command confirmed the deployment of mid-range attack drones to execute the initial bombardment, effectively halting rail traffic along that transport vector.

Following the initial structural failure, local resistance assets monitored the arrival of specialized Russian railway repair machinery dispatched to salvage the crossing. The identification of the engineering team prompted the immediate launch of a second phase of the operation.

Overnight on June 23, Ukrainian mid-range drones returned to target the location, successfully disabling both the heavy repair equipment and the remaining pillars of the compromised bridge, the SSO noted, summarizing the operation on social media with the statement that the infrastructure “no longer exists.”

The destruction of the crossing compromises a primary logistics artery that Moscow relies upon to sustain its military footprint in southern Ukraine and secure the Crimean peninsula’s domestic garrison. The transport corridor facilitated the bilateral transit of heavy armor, ammunition, and fuel from the Russian Federation toward active front lines in the south, while simultaneously reinforcing the occupied territory’s internal network.

The SSO emphasized that systematic interdiction efforts are intentionally designed to degrade the Kremlin’s offensive and defensive capabilities.

The destruction of the rail crossing aligns with recent assessments from Eskender Bariiev, head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, who stated that Ukrainian interdiction efforts are transforming the temporarily occupied peninsula into a “natural cauldron.”

He stated that completely severing these supply lines risks isolating the expanded Russian military presence without fuel, ammunition, or electricity, rendering the defense of the territory highly unsustainable for Moscow.
