Ukraine’s engineering troops destroyed more than 1,000 Russian troops in May using minefields and other engineering barriers, Maksym Kravchuk, spokesperson for the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told Ukrinform on June 24.

According to Kravchuk, Ukraine’s Support Forces are systematically expanding engineering barriers and increasingly using unmanned systems for remote mining.

In May 2026, engineering obstacles deployed by all engineering units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces destroyed 1,099 Russian troops, 119 pieces of weapons and military equipment, and 36 other targets.

Kravchuk said Ukrainian forces laid mines both directly in front of the forward line and deeper inside territory temporarily occupied by Russian forces. This approach, he said, is producing measurable results: during offensive operations, Russian troops lose significant amounts of equipment and around 1,000 personnel each month.

Modern technology is changing how engineering missions are carried out. Kravchuk said remote mining units using UAVs and ground robotic systems can block Russian advance routes, create new defensive barriers, and inflict serious losses.

The use of unmanned systems allows Ukrainian units to mine areas faster, more accurately, and with less risk to personnel, he added.

All confirmed results are recorded in real time and entered into the Delta situational awareness system, which Kravchuk said helps ensure the objectivity and reliability of the data.

Previously, reports emerged that Russian forces were suffering losses in the Dnipro River delta after detonating mines they had laid themselves.
