Ukrainian drones disabled 12 electrical substations and one gas distribution station across temporarily occupied territories within a 48-hour period on July 1 and July 2.

The systematic strikes heavily impacted the energy grid in occupied Crimea, Luhansk, and Donetsk regions. The operation details were reported based on a statement from Robert "Madyar" Brovdi, the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces commented on the operations on social media. "The night is so moonlit, starry, clear. Moscow will fall," Brovdi wrote.

These strikes followed another deep-penetration drone operation on the night of July 2, 2026, which targeted an oil refinery in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region, approximately 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The strike on the Kstovo refinery caused a major fire at the industrial facility, which sits near another strategically vital site for the Russian military.

The recent actions are part of a broader Ukrainian campaign targeting the energy architecture supporting the Russian military.

Ukrainian defense forces have previously launched successful strikes against eight of the ten largest oil refineries inside Russia, with several of these major industrial plants being targeted multiple times since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces reported a series of long-range drone strikes targeting Russian energy, logistics, and military infrastructure across occupied Crimea and southern Ukraine, including the Hlibivske underground gas storage facility on the Tarkhankut Peninsula, radar stations, fuel transport assets, and military command posts.
