Ukrainian Soldier Takes Down Russian Lancet Drone Targeting Evac Vehicle Seconds Before Impact

A Ukrainian assault trooper known by the call sign “Tatarin” shot down a Russian strike drone in mid-attack, saving a vehicle carrying wounded soldiers from what could have been a deadly explosion, according to the 225th Assault Regiment on May 5.
The unit described his actions as driven by an “inner state of self-sacrifice.”

“This is the state of a warrior, where you feel only one thing: ‘what is meant to be will happen’—and you keep fighting,” the unit said in a comment accompanying his testimony.
Recalling the moment, Tatarin said his actions were almost instinctive.

According to him, the Lancet drone was attempting to strike a vehicle carrying four wounded soldiers being evacuated from the battlefield.
“You understand that four wounded guys are lying there—my comrades, the ones I fought alongside. They were being evacuated. And you start firing your machine gun. Your head is full of chaos. Whatever happens, happens. You just go all in. And those 20 kilograms of explosives that could have torn me in half—they just fly past, because I hit the wing, and it explodes behind the vehicle. That’s when I really broke a sweat,” Tatarin said.

His quick reaction and accurate fire caused the drone to veer off course and detonate away from the vehicle, preventing casualties among the wounded troops inside.
Earlier, in the border town of Semenivka, in Ukraine’s Chernihiv region, 12-year-old Anatoliy Prokhorenko prevented a Russian FPV drone from striking his younger siblings.
On April 18, Anatoliy noticed the Russian FPV drone approaching the area where his younger siblings and other children were playing. He saw it begin to turn and then ascend, realizing it was heading directly toward them. “That’s it, 15 seconds, and I’ll tear it!” he recalled thinking.
He then tore the drone’s fiber-optic cable, causing it to lose control and crash into bushes about 100 to 150 meters away from the group.
