“War Criminal and Loser”: Ukrainian FM Says Putin Has “No Cards Except Terror” After Massive Overnight Attack

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Russia’s overnight attack with 656 drones and 73 missiles showed that the Russian leader is “a war criminal and loser” who is relying on terror because Moscow is losing on the battlefield.
The strike killed at least 12 people, including children, and injured hundreds of civilians, according to Sybiha on June 2.

“The only reason for Russia’s overnight horrific attack against Ukraine with 656 drones and 73 missiles that killed at least 12, including children, and injured hundreds of civilians is that Putin is a war criminal and loser who has no cards except terror,” Sybiha said.
“Moscow is losing on the battlefield. No number of missiles can change this,” he added.
Sybiha said Ukraine’s partners must go beyond statements of condemnation and take practical steps to reduce Russia’s ability to continue its attacks.
“What we can change is Russia’s ability to continue terror. I urge partners to act, not only condemn. There are concrete steps that can be taken,” he said.

The foreign minister called for the use of the unblocked European Peace Fund to finance the PURL program and purchase additional Patriot air defense systems and missiles for Ukraine. He also urged partners to advance an anti-ballistic coalition and increase investment in Ukraine’s long-range strike capabilities.
“First. Use the unblocked European Peace Fund to fund the PURL program and buy additional ‘Patriot’ systems and missiles for Ukraine. Advance the anti-ballistic coalition. Increase investment in Ukraine’s long-range capabilities,” Sybiha said.
He also called for tougher sanctions against Russia, travel bans for Russian combatants, the full use of frozen Russian assets, and deeper international isolation of Moscow.
“Second. Ramp up pressure on Russia through new sanctions, travel bans for combatants, the full use of frozen assets, and isolation,” he said.

Sybiha said Europe should also take long-delayed political steps, including opening EU negotiation clusters for Ukraine.
“Third. Take long overdue strategic steps such as opening EU negotiation clusters for Ukraine,” he said.
The foreign minister said Moscow must understand that attacks on civilians will only increase the cost for Russia and will not bring it closer to victory.
“Terrorists in Moscow must realise that their brutal attacks won’t bring them anywhere. That the price for their regime will only increase. That the only way out for Putin is to immediately end this war,” Sybiha said.
He added that diplomatic efforts can succeed only if they are backed by real pressure on Moscow.
“Peace efforts will only succeed when they are backed with real pressure on Moscow,” he said.
Earlier, a Russian overnight attack on the city of Dnipro killed at least 9 people, including a 2-year-old child. In total, 35 people were injured, 20 of them hospitalized.
