Zelenskyy Promises “Just Response” After Massive Russian Missile and Drone Attack

Volodymyr Zelenskyy vowed that Russia would face a “just response” after a massive overnight missile and drone attack killed civilians and damaged hundreds of sites across Ukraine.
“As of now, already 5 people have been reported killed in Kyiv as a result of last night’s Russian attack. My condolences to their families and loved ones,” Zelenskyy said.

According to the Ukrainian president, around 40 people were injured in Kyiv, another seven in the surrounding Kyiv region, 28 more in Kharkiv, and two in the Odesa region. In total, 180 sites across the country were reportedly damaged, including more than 50 residential buildings.
A search-and-rescue operation was still underway in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, where authorities continued searching for people believed trapped under rubble. Zelenskyy said more than 10 people remained missing.
“Overall, more than 750 personnel of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and nearly 750 police officers have already been engaged across the country to eliminate the consequences of the attack,” he stated.

Zelenskyy also accused Russian forces of targeting a United Nations humanitarian mission vehicle in the Kherson region earlier in the day using FPV drones.
“The Russians twice attacked a vehicle of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs with FPV drones, and the Russians could not have been unaware of which vehicle they were targeting,” he said, adding that the head of the UN humanitarian office and eight staff members were inside the vehicle at the time. No injuries were reported.
Despite the scale of the attack, Zelenskyy said Ukrainian air defenses intercepted more than 93% of incoming aerial threats.
“Of course, it needs to be higher. And of course, the most difficult challenge is defending against ballistic missiles,” he noted.

The Ukrainian leader called for continued sanctions pressure on Moscow and warned that Russia “must feel the consequences of their terror there.”
“There must be a just response to all these strikes,” Zelenskyy wrote. “It is important that the world does not stay silent about this terror and stands with Ukraine.”
Earlier, Russia launched one of its longest mass aerial attacks on Ukraine as US President Donald Trump arrived in China. The strike involved at least 800 drones in a single day, killing six people.
Zelenskyy linked the timing of the assault to US President Donald Trump’s arrival in China, framing it as a deliberate Russian attempt to disrupt the diplomatic moment.
