European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Marta Kos has proposed that the European Council release a tranche of nearly €2.8 billion ($3.27 billion) to Ukraine.
This funding is part of the Ukraine Facility program and follows the completion of specific reforms by the Ukrainian government, according to European Pravda on April 29.

Commissioner Marta Kos highlighted that Ukraine has successfully reached the milestones required for the next phase of funding. "When Ukraine fulfills its commitments, Europe must keep its side of the bargain. This is exactly what we are doing now, officially proposing to the Council to allocate nearly €2.8 billion under the Ukraine Facility," Kos stated, affirming the EU's readiness to proceed with the planned support.
She also emphasized her commitment to continued cooperation with the Ukrainian government and the Verkhovna Rada to support reforms that bring the country closer to European Union membership.
The payment is expected to be disbursed in May or early June, pending Council approval. This is expected to be the final disbursement under the current reform package, with a new list of milestones to be agreed for future support.

This development comes after the Council of the EU adopted changes to the long-term budget for 2021-27. These adjustments will allow for a €90 billion ($105.1 billion) loan to be provided to Ukraine between 2026 and 2027 to support the country following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Previously, the European Union officially approved its 20th package of sanctions against Russia. The new measures include over 100 individual restrictions and increase pressure on the energy sector and the “shadow fleet.”
