China asked Ukraine to refrain from carrying out strikes on Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East while a senior Chinese official attended an international economic forum in the city, Kyodo News reported on September 4, citing sources familiar with the matter.

According to the outlet, the request was aimed at protecting the Chinese delegation attending the four-day Eastern Economic Forum, led by Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, the sixth-highest-ranking member of the Chinese Communist Party’s Politburo Standing Committee.

Ukraine agreed to refrain from striking Vladivostok while the Chinese delegation remained in the city, the source noted.

Internal Russian shipping records obtained by POLITICO on September 4 revealed that a Chinese state-owned company had supplied Russia with materials used to manufacture hundreds of strike drones.

Shipping and customs documents show that earlier this year, the Chinese company delivered 46 metric tons of carbon-fiber-related chemicals to a subsidiary of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom. POLITICO reported that the shipment was declared under a customs code typically used for materials such as nylon and polyester.
