"Contempt for Science and Truth": Macron Condemns Russian Strike on Ukraine’s Science Academy

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned a Russian strike on Ukraine's National Academy of Sciences, describing it as the country's largest scientific research institution.

Macron made the statement in a French-language post on X on September 28. He stated that the regime of the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, had struck the academy.

"These strikes are a new illustration of the hostile contempt of the Russian regime for science and truth," Macron wrote.

The French President noted that the attack added to "the barbarity of daily strikes that hunt down Ukrainian civilians."

The strike killed two scientists and injured several others. Across Kyiv, at least 19 people were injured in the broader Russian attack, including three children.

Macron declared that he shared the suffering of the victims and their families. "France and Europe will stand, for as long as necessary, alongside the Ukrainian people, who are resisting with courage," he added.

The strike is part of a broader pattern of Russian attacks on Ukrainian education and cultural sites in recent weeks.

On September 2, Shahed-type drones hit a Kyiv university during classes, while 160 students sheltered inside. Two days later, a drone damaged the 18th-century Consistory Building within the Saint Sophia of Kyiv sanctuary complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

By September 1, Russian attacks had damaged 4,650 educational facilities across Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion, with 423 destroyed completely.
