Half of US Businesses in Ukraine Have Been Hit by Russia—and Senator Blumenthal Says It’s No Accident

Russia is deliberately targeting American businesses operating in Ukraine, with roughly half having suffered significant damage from Russian missile or drone strikes, US Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal said during a press conference in Kyiv, Radio Svoboda reported on August 27.
Blumenthal argued that the repeated strikes should provoke a much stronger reaction in the US, saying the attacks cannot simply be dismissed as Russian weapons accidentally veering off course.

“Americans should be outraged that Vladimir Putin is deliberately and intentionally targeting American businesses. Make no mistake: these are not missiles or drones that accidentally went off course.
These attacks are intentional and repeated. They have caused millions of dollars in damage and constitute a gross violation of international law, not to mention basic moral standards,” Blumenthal said.
The Connecticut senator expressed hope that American companies operating in Ukraine would become more vocal in pressing President Donald Trump and Congress to demonstrate US strength and increase pressure on Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Blumenthal said stronger American pressure could help force the Kremlin toward negotiations aimed at ending Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
The senator’s warning comes as Russian strikes increasingly damage not only Ukraine’s energy and military infrastructure but also factories, warehouses and other commercial facilities essential to the country’s economy.
Ukraine’s retail sector has also faced disruptions following Russian attacks on major warehousing and logistics infrastructure. Supermarket chains including Novus, Silpo and Fora have experienced temporary shortages as damaged warehouses and cold-storage facilities complicated moving and replacing inventory across the country.
Earlier, a Russian drone attack on Kherson sparked a fire at a Ukrainian Red Cross warehouse, destroying and damaging humanitarian supplies worth around $626,000.
