Poland will transfer two Soviet-designed MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in the near future, along with ammunition and other military equipment as part of a new aid package worth roughly $55.7 million, according to Rzeczpospolita on October 29.

Dariusz Łukowski, director of the Strategy and Defense Planning Department at Poland’s Ministry of National Defense, confirmed that.

“In the near future. The decision has been made, and these two MiG-29s will be transferred,” Łukowski said when asked when Ukraine would receive the fighters.

According to information obtained by the Polish outlet, one of the two aircraft has already reached the end of its service life, while the second remains airworthy.

The fighters will form part of a broader Polish military assistance package valued at about $55.7 million.

The package is also expected to include 155mm and 152mm artillery ammunition, ammunition for the six-barrel cannons used by F-16 fighters, and missiles for Poland’s Piorun man-portable air-defense systems.

Poland’s Defense Ministry has officially confirmed that Warsaw is preparing another military aid package for Ukraine, although it has declined to disclose the complete list of weapons and equipment for security reasons.

The ministry said the final scale of the package will depend on Poland’s own national security requirements and the capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces, as determined by the chief of the General Staff.

Some of the equipment being transferred is expected to come from systems Poland is withdrawing from active service as they reach the end of their planned operational life.

Warsaw stressed, however, that equipment no longer required by the Polish military may still provide significant value to Ukraine, which continues to operate Soviet-designed aircraft and weapons alongside its growing fleet of Western systems.

The additional MiG-29s would add to Poland’s previous transfers of the fighter type to Ukraine and could provide Kyiv with another airworthy aircraft as well as a valuable source of spare parts and components for keeping the remaining fleet operational.

Previously, reports emerged that Ukraine is restructuring its combat aviation around Western-style fighter wings, has already established the 107th F-16 Aviation Wing, and is preparing airbases capable of supporting multiple aircraft types—including Sweden’s Gripen—as part of a long-term Air Force transformation through 2035.
