Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has publicly called on a man and a woman accused of attacking two Ukrainian children in the city of Bydgoszcz to turn themselves in to police.

Tusk addressed the incident during a government meeting, saying he was disturbed by reports that two individuals had behaved aggressively toward Ukrainian children at a playground, according to Onet.

“Regardless of what some people think about Ukraine, we know about recent events, we know that not everything—either on the Ukrainian or Polish side—is right, and we are aware of that, but attacking children is an anti-Polish act. We, as Poles, have always been very proud of how we treat our own children and children who seek refuge with us,” Tusk said.

The Polish prime minister stressed that such behavior was unacceptable and harmful to Poland.

According to Tusk, authorities are searching for the two suspects over the alleged attack on children aged 12 and 14. He directly addressed the pair, urging them to surrender before police locate and detain them.

“These two ‘brave’ citizens who attacked a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old child are being sought. I have a message for them. You will be detained by the end of the week. It will be much better for you—you can ask a lawyer you know—if you report to the police today. Your situation will be much worse when, at the end of the week, after being detained, you are held accountable for what you did. That is my free, sincere legal advice,” Tusk said.

On August 14, a man and a woman assaulted two Ukrainian minors after hearing them speak Ukrainian.

According to the Consulate General of Ukraine in Gdansk, the adults verbally abused and threatened the children before the confrontation turned physical. One of the children reportedly had their arm twisted, while a toy drone was broken and its pieces thrown at the boy, leaving him with scratches.
