Rheinmetall has begun supplying Ukraine with 155mm artillery ammunition produced at its new factory in Unterlüß, marking the facility’s first delivery to the Ukrainian military, the German defense company announced on July 14.

Until now, Rheinmetall’s ammunition shipments to Ukraine had come exclusively from its other production sites.

The first order from Unterlüß includes a five-figure quantity of artillery shells, accompanied by propellant charges manufactured at other Rheinmetall facilities. Ukraine has already received more than half of the order, with the remaining rounds and charges scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026.

The shipment marks Ukraine’s first receipt of ammunition manufactured at Rheinmetall’s new Werk Niedersachsen plant in Lower Saxony.

The rounds are the company’s latest RH1412 155mm artillery shells. They are compatible with multiple NATO-standard artillery systems and are designed to combine extended firing range with high effectiveness against battlefield targets.

The delivery adds a new production source to Europe’s effort to expand ammunition output for Ukraine as artillery remains one of the most heavily used capabilities in the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

German defense manufacturer Rheinmetall will supply several thousand additional 155mm artillery shells and propellant charges to Ukraine under a contract placed by an unnamed NATO member state.

The procurement contract, valued in the mid double-digit millions of euros, was officially recognized in the company’s financial statements for the second quarter of 2026. Production of the large-caliber munitions has already commenced, with the complete order scheduled for final delivery before April 2027.
