Six tankers carrying approximately 288,000 tons of Russian diesel fuel are heading to the United States, marking the first shipments under an agreement reached between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin on October 9, according to Greenpeace Ukraine.

The environmental organization identified the vessels and published their locations on a new interactive map, allowing the public to monitor their movements in real time.

Greenpeace warned that the shipments violate European sanctions and are illegal under US law, calling for the tankers to change course.

According to the organization, the deliveries are taking place amid increased secrecy surrounding Russia’s energy exports following a decree signed by Putin on September 28, 2026.

The decree restricts the publication and use of detailed information about Russian oil and energy exports, including prices, trading partners, transportation routes, terminals, storage facilities, and customs data.

Greenpeace argued that the restrictions are intended to conceal shipments and help Russia circumvent international sanctions designed to limit the revenue Moscow uses to finance its war against Ukraine.

“Every shipment of Russian diesel comes at a price—human lives. Every dollar that flows into Russia can finance new attacks, new destruction, and new deaths. These shipments also undermine the international sanctions regime and send a dangerous message: business with Russia can continue as usual, despite its war against Ukraine. Human lives must matter more than fossil fuel profits!” said Polina Kolodiazhna, an energy campaigner at Greenpeace Ukraine.

To increase transparency, Greenpeace launched a tracking platform displaying information about vessels transporting Russian diesel, with additional shipments to be added as new data becomes available.

The organization identified six tankers currently being tracked: Taurus, Agioi Fanendes, Talisman, Leruo, Iblea, and Primorye. Three of them—Talisman, Leruo, and Primorye—are subject to sanctions imposed by several countries, with Talisman having been under US restrictions since January 2025.

However, the organization cautioned that Russian tankers operating under sanctions frequently provide inaccurate shipping information or change their declared destinations during voyages.

According to Greenpeace, the shipments are the first deliveries under an agreement reached between Trump and Putin on October 9.

The reported agreement provides for the supply of 300,000 tons of Russian diesel, equivalent to approximately 2.25 million barrels, to US and global markets. Further deliveries are reportedly planned, including an additional 500,000 tons in November 2026, followed by another 1 million tons.

The reported shipments have also drawn criticism in the United States, with New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill considering measures to prevent Russian diesel from entering a port in her state.

As KYW Newsradio reported on October 29, Sherrill is weighing the possibility of blocking one of the shipments, criticizing the Trump administration’s fuel agreement with Russia over its failure to reduce energy costs for American consumers.

“Donald Trump isn’t doing anything to bring down gas prices, diesel prices, or costs,” Sherrill stated. “Instead, he is lining Vladimir Putin’s pockets at the expense of American consumers and our democratic ally Ukraine.”
