Germany Launches Production of Gereon UGVs With First Units Bound for Ukraine

German companies DEUTZ and ARX Robotics will begin industrial-scale serial production of the Gereon unmanned ground system in Ulm, with the first units expected to be delivered to Ukraine by the end of the summer, DEUTZ announced on July 10.
According to a company press release, serial production is scheduled to begin within the next few weeks at DEUTZ's manufacturing facility in Ulm.

“To deliver the Gereon to Ukraine, we are ramping up production at our Ulm plant. In this way, the strategic partnership with ARX Robotics is creating a substantial contribution to strengthening European defense policy through support for Ukraine,” said Marco Gerrer, CEO of the Business Unit Defense at DEUTZ.
The Gereon platform is developed by Munich-based defense technology company ARX Robotics, which specializes in software-defined autonomous ground systems. The company signed a strategic partnership agreement with DEUTZ in October 2025 to expand production capacity and integrate DEUTZ propulsion technologies into its robotic platforms.

Beyond increasing manufacturing output, the partnership includes the integration of DEUTZ powertrains into ARX Robotics; unmanned ground systems. These initially include battery-electric drives, with compact internal combustion engines and hybrid propulsion systems planned for future variants.
“The war in Ukraine shows that Europe’s defense capability depends not only on innovation, but also on industrial scaling. ARX Robotics and DEUTZ are building the bridge between military innovation and industrial mass scaling. Together, we are accelerating the development of these capabilities.” added Marc Wietfeld, co-founder and CEO of ARX Robotics.

The announcement comes as Ukraine continues to expand the battlefield use of robotic ground systems. Ukraine’s Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov noted that the Defense Forces carried out more than 16,600 logistics and casualty evacuation missions using unmanned ground vehicles in June, an 18.6% increase compared with May.
The growth coincides with the introduction of new domestically developed robotic platforms. Ukraine's Armed Forces are preparing to deploy the newly approved Tanchik Droid 12.7, an unmanned ground vehicle designed to remotely engage enemy personnel and lightly armored vehicles while reducing risks to frontline troops.
Developed by a Ukrainian manufacturer for operation@s in high-intensity combat environments, the reconnaissance and strike platform was created using operational experience and lessons drawn from the deployment of both Ukrainian and foreign robotic systems.
