Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that a Kyiv firefighter, Serhii Vlasenko, lost his home after a Russian drone struck the residential building where he lived with his family during the night of November 14.

According to Klymenko, Vlasenko, 35, has served for 15 years and was on duty when the drone hit the building. The apartment was completely destroyed by fire. At the time of the strike, his mother, wife, and two young children were at home. They managed to reach shelter after the air-raid alert, which saved their lives.

Klymenko said that when emergency crews arrived, Vlasenko realized his own apartment was burning but continued working as part of the response team.

He “worked to extinguish the flames that engulfed his home and dismantled damaged structures to reach the children’s room,” acting with the same professionalism he demonstrated during any emergency call.

The minister added that Vlasenko and his family have been provided with service housing.

“This is the system’s responsibility to those who save others every day,” Klymenko said.

He noted that cases like this show that rescuers “have families, homes, and personal losses, yet even when their own home becomes a casualty of war, they are still the first to help others.”

Earlier, during the night of November 13–14, Kyiv came under a major Russian air assault involving drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. The strike occurred in the early hours, causing damage across multiple districts on both sides of the Dnipro River.
