BAFTA Award Goes to “Ukraine: Enemy in the Woods” for Frontline Documentary on Russia’s War

Documentary Ukraine: Enemy in the Woods, directed by British filmmaker Jamie Roberts, has received the prestigious 2025 BAFTA TV Award for "Best Single Documentary." The announcement was made on the official BAFTA website on May 11.
The film focuses on the 210th Separate Special Battalion "Berlingo," a group of 99 Ukrainian soldiers tasked with defending a critical railway line near Kharkiv during a period of intense Russian assaults in November 2023. This railway was a vital logistical route, and its defense was crucial to maintaining supply lines and preventing enemy advances towards Kharkiv.
Moreover, much of the footage was recorded by the soldiers themselves using GoPro cameras, offering an unfiltered, firsthand perspective of life on the front lines.
In its review, The Guardian described the film as "surgically precise, raw and devastating."
"This film does not so much explain the mission as show it in visceral detail. You will see death and dead bodies; these images are unlikely to leave your mind," the publication noted.
Earlier, the short film Rock, Paper, Scissors, directed by Franz Böhm and depicting the war in Ukraine, won the BAFTA Award for Best British Short Film. During the award ceremony, Oleksandr Rudynskyi, the film's lead actor, accepted the award alongside the production team. He dedicated the victory to a friend who lost his life in the war against Russia.
