Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka Makes First Visit to Ukraine, Reaffirming Czechia’s Support

Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka visited Ukraine for the first time since his appointment, signaling the country’s continued diplomatic support, according to a report by Czech outlet ČT24 on January 9.
Macinka, alongside Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, discussed defense cooperation, Ukraine’s reconstruction, and efforts for peace amidst the ongoing Russian invasion.

During the visit, Macinka expressed Czech solidarity with Ukraine, highlighting the importance of continuing the ammunition initiative and the Czech Republic’s role in the defense sector.
“Ukraine is very interested in peace, and now it is time for concessions on the Russian side,” Macinka said.
Macinka also praised Ukraine’s air and drone defense capabilities, noting the Czech Republic’s interest in learning from Ukraine’s advancements in these areas.

The ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to a strong partnership, emphasizing that the Czech Republic views Ukraine as a true ally in the face of Russian aggression.
The meeting also touched on the critical situation in Ukraine, where Russian forces continue to target civilian infrastructure, including energy sector of Ukraine.
Macinka stressed the need for continued support, stating that “people are dying there,” and more help was necessary.
Previously, it was reported that Czechia has fulfilled its commitment to supply 1.8 million pieces of large-caliber ammunition to Ukraine’s defenders by the end of the year, former Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala confirmed in a post on X.
