Delayed Cluster Munitions Explode in Kyiv Park After Russian Drone Strike, Injuring Civilian

On May 1, delayed detonations from suspected cluster munitions occurred in a forested park area of Kyiv after a Russian drone strike overnight, injuring one woman. The incident was confirmed by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
According to Tymur Tkachenko, Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, one explosion also damaged the roof of a residential building nearby.
“There was an explosion on the roof of a residential building, which partially damaged the roof. One person was injured. It is likely that these are cluster munitions scattered by Russian UAVs, but a definitive conclusion can only be made after a specialized examination to determine the origin of these explosive elements,” Tkachenko stated.
Mayor Klitschko noted that the explosive devices detonated with a delay, increasing the danger to civilians and first responders.
Emergency services, including bomb disposal units, medics, and rescue teams, are currently operating at the site. Police have cordoned off the area to ensure public safety and prevent civilian access.
Earlier, Russia launched a coordinated attack on Kyiv using approximately six Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, around six 3M14 Kalibr cruise missiles, and an unspecified number of attack UAVs. In the aftermath, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that 13 people were killed and the number of injured has risen to 90.
