Dr. Ihor Zyma, Renowned Neurobiologist, Killed With Family in Kyiv Drone Strike
Dr. Ihor Zyma, a prominent Ukrainian scientist and doctor of biological sciences, was killed along with his family in a drone attack on Kyiv on January 1, 2025. The attack also claimed the lives of his wife and their pet cat.
According to a statement from family friend Daria Tretyakova-Dushechkina, Dr. Zyma was at home, in bed, when the attack occurred.
“Ihor Zyma died along with his entire family: his wife and their cat. Right at home. In bed. Most likely, we would have been celebrating the New Year at their place,” Tretyakova-Dushechkina wrote.
Dr. Zyma was a well-known neurobiologist and professor at the Institute of Biology and Medicine at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. With over 40 years of scientific experience, he made significant contributions to his field and was widely respected in the academic community.
On January 1, Russia launched a drone attack on Kyiv, causing widespread damage and leaving two people dead and seven injured, including two pregnant women.
