The European Union is launching the €16.7 million ($18 million) Ukraine2EU Program to support Ukraine’s EU integration. This was announced during the conference “Ukraine’s Accession to the EU: The Choice Has Been Made, It’s a Matter of Time,” as reported by a Detektor Media journalist who attended the event on April 1.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys stated that the main goal of the Ukraine2EU Program is to prepare Ukraine for EU membership.

“We are in a special moment, as Ukraine is making efforts to join the EU. This reflects the motivation not only of those directly working on EU integration within government institutions but also of society as a whole,” Budrys said.

The Lithuanian FM noted that he understands the complexity of the EU accession process.

“Achieving this during wartime is incredibly difficult. It will require the mobilization of resources and political will. Ukraine’s EU membership is crucial for the security and stability of Europe. Our goal is to see Ukraine in the EU by 2030,” Budrys added.

The Ukraine2EU Program is a three-year initiative implemented by the Lithuanian Central Project Management Agency. It is one of the key European Union programs designed to help Ukraine successfully complete the accession process and prepare for EU membership.

Sweden and Denmark have reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine’s EU future, emphasizing the need for ongoing reforms, particularly in the fight against corruption.

“Ukraine’s future lies within the European Union. The sooner Ukraine becomes an EU member, the stronger and more stable the entire European continent will be. Ukraine still faces significant challenges on its European path, but it has made remarkable progress under extraordinary circumstances,” stated Danish Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre.

“The Ukrainian people can rely on the support of their European friends as they work toward EU membership.”

Ukraine submitted its application for EU membership on February 28, 2022. On June 23, 2022, the European Council granted Ukraine candidate status for European Union membership. Official negotiations then started on June 25, 2024.
