Face to Face: Ukrainian Tank Confronts Russian Armored Beast in Donbas Duel, Video

A Ukrainian tank from the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade engaged and struck a Russian armored vehicle during a close-range encounter near the town of Siversk, according to footage released by the military blogger “Myslyvets za zoriamy.”

The Russian tank, fitted with a large improvised anti-drone structure, was intercepted at a distance of less than 100 meters.

The Ukrainian crew fired a main gun round—reportedly a cumulative munition—which damaged the vehicle’s upper structure. However, the strike did not completely disable the tank, which managed to retreat under its own power.

The video ends before showing the final outcome of the engagement. The author of the footage claims the Russian vehicle was later destroyed by loitering munitions during its attempted withdrawal.

The battle took place approximately two kilometers outside of Siversk, an area currently held by Ukraine’s 54th and 53rd Mechanized Brigades, as well as the National Guard’s 4th Rapid Response Brigade “Rubizh.”

Open-source researcher Moklasen has geolocated the point of impact. The tank seen in the video appears to be of the same type involved in larger clashes on July 25, when Ukrainian forces from the 54th and 81st Brigades repelled a significant Russian mechanized assault.

At that time, several enemy tanks were equipped with similar protective add-ons designed to counter drone attacks.

Earlier, Russia maintained a significant advantage in armored forces, fielding up to ten times more tanks and combat vehicles than Ukraine.

However, this imbalance has rapidly shifted due to Ukraine’s evolving drone capabilities and increasing battlefield efficiency. By mid-2025, Ukraine’s General Staff reported nearly 10,000 Russian tanks destroyed since the start of the full-scale invasion—figures largely driven by drone strikes and precision operations.
