Finland will increase its humanitarian assistance to Ukraine to approximately $24 million and deliver an additional 52 generators in February, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk said following a meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in Helsinki on February 17.

“The Government of Finland plans to additionally transfer 52 generators to Ukraine during February and increase humanitarian support to €22 million (around $24 million). We are grateful to Finland for this assistance and for its leadership in the International Civil Protection Shelter Coalition,” Kondratiuk said.

According to the deputy speaker, Finland has significant experience in civil protection and has already allocated about $14.3 million for the construction of the first shelters out of the 10,000 planned across Ukraine. Kondratiuk emphasized the importance of expanding the initiative and engaging more countries in the humanitarian effort.

For his part, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stated that Finland’s government would continue providing military assistance to Ukraine and advocating for the acceleration of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

During the meeting, Kondratiuk also asked Orpo to consider allocating additional funding within NATO’s PURL program.“

First of all, for air defense systems and missiles to protect Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and civilian population. Ukraine is also interested in joint military production with Finland within the EU SAFE instrument. Our priority is unmanned systems,” she noted.

Additionally, on February 14, Australia allocated an additional $7.1 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, increasing its overall contribution to $29.1 million, Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy reported. The grant is intended to meet urgent infrastructure demands and help stabilize the country’s energy system amid continued Russian attacks.

The funding will be used to address critical needs within the energy sector as Ukraine works to repair and reinforce facilities damaged by strikes.

“The funds will be directed toward financing the priority needs of the energy sector, taking into account current energy security challenges,” First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal said.

Earlier, Russian forces struck a vehicle transporting employees of the Sloviansk Thermal Power Plant with a drone.

The attack came as part of a broader overnight assault on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. According to the ministry, Russian forces carried out a combined missile and drone strike across multiple regions, causing power outages in the Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
