Strike drones attacked the Efremov Synthetic Rubber Plant in Russia’s Tula region, triggering a fire at the industrial facility, according to video footage shared by the OSINT community Exilenova+ on December 24.

Videos filmed by residents show flames and smoke rising from the plant in the city of Efremov, while additional footage captures fire engines rushing toward the facility in the early hours of the morning.

Reports of at least 10 explosions followed by a large fire began circulating online shortly after 3 a.m. local time.

The governor of the Tula region, Dmitry Milyaev, confirmed that a fire had broken out at an industrial site but did not name the facility. In a statement posted in the morning, he said the blaze had been contained.

“A fire occurred at the site of one of the enterprises in the Tula region. The open flames have now been localized. There are no casualties,” Milyaev wrote.

Satellite data from NASA’s FIRMS fire-monitoring service also detected a heat signature consistent with an active fire at the location of the Efremov plant.

Authorities in the region had declared a drone threat on the evening of December 23, with the alert remaining in effect after midnight.

The Efremov Synthetic Rubber Plant is one of Russia’s key producers of synthetic rubber and the country’s sole manufacturer of both high-molecular and low-molecular polyisobutylene—materials used across a wide range of industries.

Synthetic rubber and polyisobutylene are critical inputs not only for civilian chemical production but also for defense-related manufacturing, including seals, coatings, and specialized components.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense later claimed that its air defenses intercepted 172 drones overnight, including 12 allegedly shot down over the Tula region. As in previous incidents, the ministry did not comment on damage to specific facilities.

Earlier, strike drones hit the Stavrolen petrochemical plant in the city of Budyonnovsk, in Russia’s Stavropol Krai, triggering a large fire at the industrial site.
