France Supplies Majority of Intelligence Ukraine Uses in War With Russia, Macron Says

French President Emmanuel Macron said France is now supplying roughly two-thirds of the intelligence support Ukraine relies on in its fight against Russian aggression.
He made the remarks while speaking to military personnel at the Istres–Le Tubé air base on January 15, according to Suspilne.

Macron said French intelligence agencies are coordinating efforts and providing Ukrainian forces with critical intelligence required for both offensive planning and defensive operations.
“If a year ago Ukraine was almost entirely dependent on US intelligence capabilities, today two-thirds of those capabilities are provided by France. The signal we are sending to our Ukrainian partners, to other Europeans, and to the entire world is that we are ready. We are ready to support these efforts of resistance. We are ready to deter new aggression or to ensure peace on our continent,” he said.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Macron has unveiled plans for a new voluntary military service designed to bolster France’s defense readiness amid growing concern over the threat posed by Russia to Europe.

Announcing the initiative during a visit to an infantry brigade in southeastern France, Macron said the 10-month programme is set to launch next year and aims to attract up to 50,000 volunteers annually by 2035, France24 reported on November 27.
The move represents France’s most substantial step toward restoring military preparedness since mandatory conscription ended in 1996. Participation will be limited to service within mainland France and its overseas territories, excluding foreign deployments. Most recruits are expected to be 18- or 19-year-olds, though volunteers up to age 25 with specialised expertise, such as engineering skills, will also be eligible.
Earlier, Emmanuel Macron said the European Union and the United States are working together to strengthen sanctions against Russia and curb the activities of Moscow’s so-called “shadow fleet.”
