Germany plans to increase financial assistance to Ukraine by about $3.45 billion in 2026, Reuters reported on November 4, citing two unnamed government sources.
According to the report, the German finance and defense ministries intend to add $3.45 billion for Ukraine during the final adjustments to the 2026 federal budget. The funds will cover artillery, drones, armored vehicles, and the replacement of two Patriot air defense systems, one source said.
A second government source told Reuters that Chancellor Friedrich Merz supports the plan, which is expected to be approved.
“We will continue our support for as long as necessary to defend against Russia’s war of aggression,” one of the sources told Reuters.
Germany remains Europe’s largest military donor to Ukraine, having provided roughly $46 billion in assistance since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
The 2026 German budget already includes $9.78 billion earmarked for Ukraine, with the additional $3.45 billion set to boost Berlin’s long-term commitment to Kyiv.
Earlier, it was reported that the Council of the European Union has approved a $1.89 billion fifth tranche of funding for Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility program.
