Germany's HENSOLDT to Send Cutting-Edge Radars to Ukraine in Major $370M Contract

German defense electronics firm HENSOLDT has received a major contract to deliver radar systems that will enhance Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, as announced by CEO Oliver Dörre on July 25.
The comprehensive package, worth over $370 million, includes deliveries of high-performance TRML-4D radars and short-range SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII surveillance systems.
“Our high-performance radars are urgently needed to support Ukraine’s air defense,” said Dörre. “Several of our systems have already been protecting Ukraine since the start of Russia’s war of aggression. We’re proud to continue supplying these vital tools. Radars are essential for protecting the civilian population.”

The TRML-4D radar uses state-of-the-art Active Electronically Scanned Array technology. It can rapidly detect and track up to 1,500 targets simultaneously at ranges of up to 250 kilometers. The system is designed to detect, track, and classify all types of aerial threats, including cruise missiles, drones, aircraft, and helicopters.
The SPEXER radar family features surveillance systems of varying range and is designed to automatically detect and classify ground, maritime, and low-altitude aerial targets. The SPEXER 2000 model is also integrated into Rheinmetall’s new Skyranger 30 air defense gun system.
In addition, the radar is used in Germany’s unmanned rocket systems Feldlager, in advanced air defense configurations, and in the HoWiSM high-energy laser project aimed at neutralizing drones.

HENSOLDT has decades of experience in developing radar technologies for air defense and plays a key role in advancing critical defense innovations in Europe.
Last year, as part of Germany’s military aid to Ukraine, HENSOLDT also delivered AMPS systems to protect helicopters. AMPS is a modular airborne missile protection system designed for helicopters and aircraft, allowing it to be adapted to specific mission profiles and operational environments.
Previously, Germany has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, which includes a massive shipment of ammunition for Gepard air defense systems, according to a statement from Ukraine’s Defense Ministry following the 29th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, also known as the “Ramstein” format, on July 21.
