According to Financial Times on March 7, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait have approached the Ukrainian manufacturer with requests related to acquiring interceptor drones designed to neutralize hostile unmanned aerial vehicles.
Founder of TAF Industries Oleksandr Yakovenko told Financial Times that the UAE has requested approximately 5,000 interceptor drones, while Qatar has asked about acquiring 2,000 units. Kuwait has also expressed interest in purchasing similar systems.

“They want to understand how to integrate our drones into the entire defense system,” Yakovenko said. “Now every country understands that it needs interception systems, because it is not enough to have something like Patriot.”
According to Financial Times, interest from Gulf states reflects a broader shift in air defense strategy, where traditional missile-based systems are increasingly complemented by lower-cost interceptor drones capable of engaging small aerial threats.
TAF Industries has been developing interceptor drones intended to destroy incoming unmanned aerial vehicles, including Shahed-type loitering munitions widely used in Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Yakovenko noted that one of the primary obstacles for countries seeking to rapidly deploy interceptor drones is the training of operators. According to his comments to Financial Times, preparing personnel to operate such systems can take several months.
In February, TAF Industries announced preparations for the mass production of a new Ukrainian interceptor drone known as OCTOPUS.
The drone was developed by a technical team working with Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense to counter aerial threats, particularly attack drones. Production of the system is expected to involve several Ukrainian companies, with additional manufacturing planned in the United Kingdom.
Earlier, the United Kingdom deployed elite counter-drone specialists from the 12th Regiment of the Royal Artillery to the Middle East to help defend military bases from potential Iranian drone attacks, according to The Telegraph. Many of the soldiers previously trained alongside Ukrainian forces and studied battlefield tactics used to counter Russian drones during Russia’s war against Ukraine.
