Israel Dismisses Reports of Captured Russian Weapons Being Sent to Ukraine

Israeli Ambassador Michael Brodsky stated that his country has made no decisions regarding the transfer of Russian weapons, captured by the Israel Defense Forces from militants, to Ukraine. Brodsky stated this in an interview with Radio Liberty on January 28.

"I might disappoint you a bit, but this is not an initiative by Israel [to transfer weapons to Ukraine], it seems to be a case of miscommunication," he said.

"The issue of transferring weapons is entirely within the jurisdiction of the military and the Ministry of Defense. No such decision has been made by Israel’s Ministry of Defense," Brodsky emphasized.

Addressing questions about the potential transfer of captured Russian weapons to Ukraine, Brodsky explained that Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskell, during her tenure as a Knesset  member (prior to becoming Deputy Foreign Minister), proposed a private bill on the matter. However, the proposal did not receive support in the Knesset.

When journalists pointed out that information about this initiative had appeared on the official page of the Israeli Embassy, Brodsky clarified that it was “nothing more than a private legislative proposal that did not progress further.”

Previously on January 21, Haskel had proposed transferring captured Russian-made weapons to Ukraine, according to a statement by the Ukrainian Embassy in Israel.

OSINTdefender, a project analyzing global military conflicts using open-source information, reported on January 25 that Israel may have started transferring captured Russian and Soviet-made weapons to Ukraine.
