Italy Allocates €13 Million for Ukraine’s Energy Sector Recovery

Authors

Italy has announced a contribution of €13 million to Ukraine’s Energy Support Fund, aimed at aiding the restoration of the country’s energy infrastructure, which has been severely damaged by Russian attacks. The announcement was made by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The decision was made under the direction of Italy’s Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani. According to the Ministry, this contribution is one of the largest from a single country and is intended to stabilize electricity supplies for millions of Ukrainians facing the ongoing challenges of war.

Italy emphasized that this support is a significant step in the effort to rebuild energy systems that have been extensively damaged by Russian military strikes. The Ministry further noted that the contribution will play a crucial role in ensuring reliable electricity supply to affected Ukrainian communities during this challenging period.

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also highlighted that the Energy Support Fund continues to operate effectively, as Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure persist.

The Energy Support Fund was established in the spring of 2022 through a joint initiative by Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy and the European Commission. It is focused on financing the purchase of equipment and spare parts for the restoration of damaged energy infrastructure. The European Energy Community oversees the tendering process for these purchases and monitors the use of funds.

Earlier, Italy pledged €200 million to rebuild Ukraine’s power grid, damaged by Russian strikes, with Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani highlighting the importance of supporting Ukraine’s resilience and fostering collaboration between Italian and Ukrainian businesses.
