Italy to Sends SAMP/T System and 400 M113 Vehicles to Ukraine in New Aid Package

Italy will provide Ukraine with a third SAMP/T air and missile defense system as part of its 11th military aid package, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto presented the measures to COPASIR , emphasizing Italy’s continued support for Kyiv, according to the Italian outlet Formiche.
The package also includes 400 M113 tracked vehicles and additional ammunition, bolstering Ukraine’s defenses against persistent Russian missile attacks.
The latest delivery underscores Italy’s continued support for Ukraine’s air defense needs, with officials viewing the SAMP/T as critical for countering aerial threats. In addition to military hardware, Italy will maintain satellite surveillance support to help track Russian troop movements, working in coordination with NATO’s aerospace network.
If confirmed, this would be the third SAMP/T system supplied to Ukraine — and the second delivered solely by Italy.
The first SAMP/T battery was provided jointly by France and Italy in early 2023. That delivery was agreed upon in February 2023, and its deployment to Ukraine was confirmed in June of the same year.

The second battery, supplied exclusively by Italy, was included in the country’s May 2024 aid package. Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto later announced in September that it would arrive in Ukraine by the end of that month.
Based on the timeline of previous deliveries, analysts expect the new SAMP/T system to reach Ukraine sometime in the fall of 2025.
The Italian version of the SAMP/T is mounted on Iveco M320 or ACTL HD8 trucks and features a battery configuration of four self-propelled launchers, a mobile radar unit, and a command center.
Its Aster 30 Block 1 missiles can intercept aerodynamic targets at ranges up to 120 kilometers and altitudes up to 25 kilometers. They are also capable of targeting tactical ballistic missiles with flight ranges of up to 600 kilometers at distances of up to 30 kilometers.
Earlier, reports emerged that self-propelled howitzers M109 have been observed in service with five Ukrainian Defense Forces units between March and April 2025.
