“It’s Disgusting"—Trump Slams Russia’s Attack on Kyiv, Renews Sanctions Ultimatum

US President Donald Trump condemned Russia’s latest deadly missile strike on Kyiv, calling the attack “disgusting” and promising new sanctions against Moscow, speaking at a White House press conference on July 31.
Trump expressed anger and sadness over the intensifying war, which most recently claimed 28 lives—including children—during a combined drone and missile strike on Ukraine’s capital.
“Russia, I think it’s disgusting what they’re doing,” Trump told reporters. “I think what Russia’s doing is very sad. A lot of Russians are dying. Russians are dying, Ukrainians are dying.”
Trump added that the United States plans to impose additional sanctions on Moscow but acknowledged uncertainty about their impact on Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
“I don’t know that sanctions bother him,” Trump said.

Trump also revealed that his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will travel to Moscow after a stop in Israel, where he is currently holding talks with Israeli officials on the situation in Gaza.
“He’s going to Russia. Believe it or not,” Trump told reporters.
The comments came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for regime change in Moscow, saying it was the only way to stop the Kremlin from continuing to destabilize the region.
Earlier, Trump issued a warning to Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, in response to the Russian official’s posts on X where he called Trump and the US Senator Lindsey Graham “granps”. Trump slammed both Russia and India, calling their economies “dead,” and accused Medvedev of reckless saber-rattling.
