Trump Issues Warning to Medvedev—Russia Responds With Nuclear Threats

US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, in response to the Russian official’s posts on X where he called Trump and the US Senator Lindsey Graham “granps”. Trump slammed both Russia and India, calling their economies “dead,” and accused Medvedev of reckless saber-rattling in his post on Truth Social on July 31.

“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care,” Trump wrote.
“We have done very little business with India, their Tariffs are too high, among the highest in the World. Likewise, Russia and the USA do almost no business together.”
Trump dismissed the idea of deepening US ties with either country, saying the United States had little interest in working with nations that pursued protectionist policies or aggressive rhetoric.
“Let’s keep it that way,” Trump added. “And tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory!”
To those in Russia who believe that President Trump is not serious about ending the bloodbath between Russia and Ukraine:

In a scathing remark, Trump ridiculed Medvedev’s perceived role in Russian politics, implying he holds no real power but acts as if he does.
Medvedev quickly fired back on Telegram with sarcasm and defiance.
“If a few words from a former president of Russia trigger such a nervous reaction from the mighty President of the United States, then Russia is clearly right and will continue along its chosen path,” Medvedev wrote.
He also mocked Trump’s reference to “dead economies,” invoking imagery from pop culture and Russian strategic doctrine.
“As for the ‘dead economies’ of India and Russia and ‘dangerous territory’—well, let him recall his favorite films about the ‘walking dead,’ as well as how dangerous the non-existent ‘Dead Hand ’ can be,” Medvedev quipped, referring to Russia’s Cold War-era nuclear retaliation system.
Earlier, Medvedev dismissed Trump’s pledge to impose 100% import tariffs on Russia and its trade partners if no Ukraine ceasefire deal is reached within 50 days as a “theatrical ultimatum” unlikely to sway Moscow.
