King Charles to Host Trump at Windsor in Historic Visit, Ukraine Expected to Feature in Talks

US President Donald Trump, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, will become the first US President in history to be formally welcomed to Windsor Castle, according to Politico on September 17.
The itinerary includes a carriage procession, a ceremonial flypast, formal banquets, and honor escorts. These events are meant to appeal to Trump, who has previously expressed admiration for such displays, while also highlighting the longstanding defense ties between the United States and the United Kingdom, Politico reported.
While not part of the official program, both political and royal aides expect that the issue of Ukraine will be raised. A senior defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted that the king is “very close” to the details of ceasefire discussions and to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This, they said, gives the Prime Minister Keir Starmer an advantage, as the monarch has consistently shown support for Kyiv and may use his influence to address US skepticism about the war.

Trump has long displayed genuine respect for the royal family. Before departing for Britain, he described King Charles as “such an elegant gentleman” and called his second visit a “great honor.”
During Trump’s stay in Windsor, which will include a state banquet and overnight at the castle, many observers expect the king to again raise the subject of Ukraine, however discreetly. Just weeks ago, Charles marked Ukraine’s Independence Day with a message calling for a “just and lasting peace.” Analysts believe he may echo this call in his banquet speech.
According to Politico, the UK and the US continue to stand together as close partners in both war and peace. Trump is accompanied by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff, both expected to face lobbying from British officials on Ukraine.
Earlier, for the first time, Donald Trump publicly identified Russia as the aggressor in its war against Ukraine, marking a potential shift toward a harder line on Moscow.
