On March 31, speakers and deputy speakers from 17 European national parliaments, along with representatives of the European Parliament, arrived in Kyiv for a summit of parliamentary leaders.

The visit coincides with the anniversary of the liberation of Bucha, a city that has become a symbol of Russian war crimes in Ukraine.

According to the Verkhovna Rada  of Ukraine, delegations arrived from Belgium, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Finland, Croatia, the Czech Republic, and Sweden.

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk stated that the visit represents continued solidarity with Ukraine.

“This visit is a strong symbol of support, solidarity, and trust. We value every gesture, every meeting, every word, and every action that brings us closer to justice and lasting peace,” Stefanchuk said.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the visit of the European delegations and later shared a photo from the memorial ceremony in Bucha. Representatives from European countries attended the event.

“Three years ago, our warriors liberated Bucha from the Russian occupiers. And the world saw what the Russian occupation truly is: people killed in the streets, people tortured, graves in the yards of ordinary houses,” Zelenskyy wrote.

The summit takes place as Ukraine marks the third anniversary of the liberation of Bucha. On this day in 2022, Ukrainian defense forces completed the operation to expel Russian troops from the city. After their retreat, evidence of mass killings, torture, and other war crimes was uncovered, drawing international condemnation.

Earlier on March 31, Mark Burns, personal spiritual advisor to US President Donald Trump, visited Bucha and Irpin, calling the war in Ukraine a humanitarian crisis “beyond politics.” Burns urged the US to provide tanks, F-35 jets, and air defense systems, citing firsthand accounts of Russian war crimes.
