Latvia has delivered a batch of six-wheeled Patria armored personnel carriers to Ukraine’s Defense Forces as part of its latest military assistance package, according to Ukrainian Ministry of Defense on July 16.

The handover took place in Kyiv during the visit of Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa. She met with Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Valerii Churkin and Colonel Andrii Biletskyi, commander of the 3rd Army Corps of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

During the ceremony, Siliņa confirmed that this is the first shipment of armored vehicles promised during her previous meeting with the President of Ukraine. She reaffirmed Latvia’s unwavering support for Ukraine and commitment to rallying continued backing from European and global leaders.

“We are very proud to continuously support Ukraine not only militarily but also financially, politically, and emotionally,” said the Latvian Prime Minister.

She also stressed the importance of direct feedback from Ukrainian soldiers to help improve the equipment based on its performance in combat.

Deputy Minister Churkin expressed gratitude to Latvia for its consistent partnership and leadership in international coalitions, particularly the Drone Coalition.

“Today’s significant support enhances the mobility and protection of our forces, directly boosting our operational capabilities in high-threat environments. Your commitments reflect a clear strategic vision and a firm stance on ensuring Europe’s security,” said Churkin.

According to Colonel Biletskyi, the Patria vehicles will be assigned to one of the 3rd Army Corps’ most capable assault units.

“These are the best and possibly the newest vehicles the brigade has ever received. These machines will save the lives of our soldiers—and shorten the lives of the occupiers,” he said.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense launched the K4 Startup Studio — a new initiative to support AI-driven startups in the defense sector. Developed with backing from Germany’s Federal Ministry of Defense and the Better Regulation Delivery Office, the program aims to fast-track technologies that can provide a battlefield edge.
