Latvia Pledges Over $2M to Support Ukraine Through NATO Initiative

Latvia continues to demonstrate steadfast support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa stated following a government meeting on Tuesday, August 12. As reported by Liepajniekiem.lv, Siliņa announced that Latvia will join NATO’s newly launched Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) mechanism, pledging a financial contribution of no less than $2.18 million to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
According to the prime minister, the final amount Latvia will contribute will be clarified later.
“The financial sum that Latvia will allocate for this initiative will be further specified, but it will not be less than two million euros,” Siliņa said.
The decision is in line with US President Donald Trump’s call, made through NATO, for allies to increase support for Ukraine by providing it with advanced defense capabilities.
The United States and NATO have introduced a new military aid mechanism, known as the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), which will finance US weapons purchases through contributions from Alliance members. Under PURL, the Netherlands has assembled a $545 million assistance package for Ukraine, including components and missiles for the Patriot air defense system. Sweden, Norway, and Denmark will also make a joint contribution of about $486 million.
Earlier, Latvia supplied Ukraine’s Defense Forces with a batch of six-wheeled Patria armored personnel carriers as part of its latest military aid package.
