Lavrov Tells Tucker Carlson Finland Lost Its Neutrality, Drawing Parallels to WWII Alliances With Hitler
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Finns have reverted to the mindset of the early years of World War II “when they were close allies of Hitler”, adding that their neutrality vanished in an instant.
Lavrov made the statement during his interview with Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News host, in Moscow on December 6.
When Carlson pointed out that Russia is neighbors with Western Europe and is “part of it, in effect,” Lavrov answered that Western Europe wants to come to Russia’s borders through Ukraine.
“Look, we have been very friendly with Finland, for example. Overnight, the Finns came back to the early years of preparation for World War II when they were the best allies of Hitler. And all this neutrality, all this friendship, going to sauna together, playing hockey together, all this disappeared overnight,” Lavrov said.
“So maybe this was deep in their hearts, and the neutrality was burdening them, and niceties were burdening for them. I don't know.”
In February 2024, Carlson traveled to Moscow, where he did an interview with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Following the interview, Carlson appeared on Lex Fridman’s podcast, where he shared his impressions and acknowledged that the Kremlin is attempting to vilify Ukrainians by labeling them as Nazis.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accepted an invitation to join Lex Fridman’s podcast.
On December 5, Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, left the OSCE plenary hall just before Lavrov's speech. Before exiting, Sybiha concluded his remarks by labeling the Russian official a war criminal.
