The Russian Ministry of Culture has signed a contract worth 19.6 million rubles (around $250 thousand) to restore Lenin’s Mausoleum, located on Red Square in the center of Moscow. The work includes dedicating space for weapons storage.
This was reported by RBC on May 29, citing the government procurement portal.
The tender specifies the project as “Preservation work on the federal cultural heritage site ‘Mausoleum of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin and Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin,’ dating from 1929–1930, located at Red Square, Moscow.”
The contract requires contractors to perform emergency stabilization, restoration work, and adaptations to enable modern use of the building.

The Russian Ministry of Culture indicated it was ready to spend 19.6 million rubles on the restoration. Ultimately, the contract was awarded to the group of companies “EKS,” which committed to completing the work at a lower cost. The deadline for the project is June 19, 2027.
The tender specifies that the contractor must hold a valid license to perform work involving access to classified state secrets.
Additionally, the project documentation states that during the restoration, some areas of the mausoleum must be adapted for administrative purposes. This includes expanding the space designated for weapons storage.
