NATO Chiefs to Discuss Security Guarantees for Ukraine After Trump-Putin Talks

NATO military leaders are scheduled to meet on August 20 to discuss strategy and future planning for Ukraine, with the session set to take place via video conference, according to the Reuters article published on August 19.
The meeting comes as Western allies assess the implications of recent high-level talks between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
The discussion will be chaired by the head of NATO’s Military Committee and will include a briefing from US Air Force General Alexus Grynkewich, who oversees NATO operations in Europe.

The agenda is expected to focus on the outcomes of the Alaska summit, where competing visions for a peace framework in Ukraine were presented. US General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is also expected to join the discussions virtually, though sources noted plans remain subject to change.
The gathering underscores NATO’s effort to coordinate military and strategic responses amid heightened diplomatic maneuvering. Officials have highlighted that the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine has become a central theme of the discussions, though the form such guarantees might take remains under consideration.
Earlier, it was reported that a coalition of 30 nations — led by the UK and France and including Japan and Australia — has been working for months on security guarantees for Ukraine, according to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
