Norway Boosts Ukraine Demining Aid by $2.97M to Restore Farmland

The Norwegian government has decided to increase funding for Norwegian People's Aid, a humanitarian organization that assists with demining efforts in Ukraine, by $2.97 million.

This was announced by the Norwegian government on November 18.

The additional funding came as part of a visit to Ukraine by Norway’s Minister for International Development, Øsmund Aukrust.

"Norwegian People's Aid is a world leader in using mine detection dogs in demining efforts, and I am pleased that we can now increase our support for their demining activities in Ukraine in 2025," Aukrust said.

The Norwegian government clarified that the additional $2.97 million will ensure safe access to agricultural land for farmers.

Overall, from 2022 to 2025, Norway has committed to providing over 700 million krone for humanitarian demining efforts in Ukraine, through both the UN and humanitarian organizations, according to the statement.

“Humanitarian demining is a priority area of Norwegian assistance to Ukraine. These efforts are crucial for protecting the civilian population and infrastructure in the country,” the statement read.

Following Russia's invasion, an estimated one-third of Ukraine's territory—roughly the combined area of Westland, Inland, and Trøndelag counties—remains at risk from mines and other unexploded ordnance. According to the World Bank, the cost of demining efforts could amount to $30 billion, the government added.

Earlier, it was reported that since Russia’s full-scale invasion began, 1,358 individuals in Ukraine have been impacted by explosive devices, resulting in 380 confirmed deaths, including 21 children.
