Ukraine Battles the World’s Largest Minefield: 380 Dead, 978 Wounded Since 2022

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, 1,358 people in Ukraine have been affected by explosive devices, with 380 confirmed fatalities, including 21 children.
This was reported by The National Police of Ukraine, referencing data from the Ministry of Defense on November 11.
The National Police of Ukraine highlighted that Ukraine remains one of the most mine-contaminated countries globally. From February 24, 2022, to November 10, 2025, 380 people were reported killed by explosive devices, including 21 children. Additionally, 978 civilians, 116 of them children, were injured by such devices.
“In today's circumstances, knowing the safety rules is not just a formality. It’s something that can truly save lives and health! The war has taught each of us that danger can be lurking anywhere — on the road, in the forest, in the fields, near bodies of water, or even near our own homes after enemy shelling,” the statement read.

In August 2025, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense demining units cleared 5,973 hectares of land in the liberated territories, which had been contaminated by explosive remnants of war due to Russia's aggression. These efforts included securing 5,653 hectares of farmland, 7.6 kilometers of roads, 15 kilometers of power lines, and nearly 67 kilometers of railway tracks.
During this operation, specialists identified and neutralized 8,410 explosive devices. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, over 458,000 explosive devices have been destroyed, furthering the efforts to ensure the safety of civilians and protect critical infrastructure across Ukraine.
Earlier, by June 2025, approximately 139,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory were contaminated with landmines and other explosive remnants of war, an area larger than that of England, which covers 130,000 km².
